I think that it was probably really hard for Jesse to live by himself without Abel because it was probably hard for him to pay for everything by himself like college tuition, apartment rent, food and clothing. It was already hard enough for both of the boys to make the money when they were both there so now that its only Jesse it was probably harder for him to do everything by himself. If things became really bad, Jesse could have moved back in with his mother and stepfather and still continued to work so he can pay for his tuition. It was probably emotionally hard for Jesse too because he wont see his brother for a long time and he because also has to be more independent.
Gary Soto works are primarily based off his own experiences. He owes much of his sucessful writing to his childhood and teenage years as a Mexican-American in a Chicano district of California. Gary Soto reflects the adversities of his poverty and ethnicity throughout his youth. He has written many novels, poems, and short stories that add to the collection of his work. Gary Soto was the youngest Ameican poet to have his work in the Norton Anthology of Modern Poetry.
